DAP man confirms tabling of bill to restore rights of Sabah, Sarawak next week

KUCHING: The bill to amend Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution to restore Sabah and Sarawak’s status as equal partners is expected to be tabled in Parliament on April 8 and 9, says Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“An internal circular has been issued to all PH MPs, requesting their presence.

“All PH MPs must be present during the amendment,” he said when met at the state-level seminar on illicit beer here today.

Earlier last week, de facto law minister Liew Vui Keong had announced that by amending Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, Sabah and Sarawak would no longer be perceived as mere states within Malaysia.

Liew said 148 MPs would need to support the amendment. He is confident 56 MPs from Sabah and Sarawak will support the bill.
